10 Marine Parade matters. A building filled with love and emotions and the best of people, its basslines and disco high hats have kept us safe and dancing for as long as Queenie and I can remember. A building at the heart of the queer community that has always delivered the goods – be it Brighton Pride weekend, Horse Meat Disco, DTPM, Brighton Gay Dance Weekend, Trans Pride, Traumfrau, Queer Prom, Disco Deviant, Gal Pals, Dykes On Decks, Neon, 1BTN, Home Service, Bitch Please!, Warehouse, Adonis, Big Queer Rave, Homoelectric, or the legendary Sunday Sundae. As The Escape Club, Audio and Patterns, its role as staunch ally to the LGBTQI+ community has never been questioned by those who know Brighton’s queer history, a dancefloor for all – welcoming every genre, every dancer, every DJ, every fundraiser. If they could, they would. It is our home, and as Patterns has been for the past 10 years, 10 Marine Parade continues to ensure our heart beats 4 to the floor each and every week.
As one grows older, the milestones achieved by those you love seem to become more frequent by the year, but none brings more of a grin than that of Patterns’ 10th anniversary. The love we feel for the building that has shaped our queer DJ disco lives is matched only by the adoration and respect we feel for the team, past and present, who bring that building to life each and every night. Booking headliners, cherishing the resident, discovering gems, and treasuring dancefloor treasures. The Patterns glitterball shines as fabulously as the love we have for our disco home. Happy birthday, Patterns. Thanks for seeing us. Thanks for standing beside us. Here’s to many more decades being the true disco deviant on our seaside strip. Here’s to always seeing you at the front.
