DJ Profile: Maze & Masters

Maze & Masters BWQueenie catches up with the fabulous DJ duo Maze & Masters and hears all about the busy summer ahead……

Where can we see you playing? Although our roots are in Brighton we live in London and reside at Beyond & Gravity at Fire club – hear us there weekly! We’re at XOYO on 18 July & 8 Aug, London Pride closing party at Orange on 28th June, Secret Garden Party on 25 July, Girlie Circuit on 13 Aug, Kuala Lumpur tour with Fierce Angels in August and Bestival on 8 Sept. At Brighton Pride we are delighted to be playing in the Wild Fruit Big Top! In the evening we will be at Coalition followed by Beyond at The Haunt, and on the Sunday we’re proud to be joining the Fruity crew’s Sunday party!

How would you describe your djing style? We are pretty spontaneous. We always try to connect with the crowd and then take them where they want to go (even if they didn’t know they wanted to go there!). Musically we push a bumping deep tech house vibe, always with a hint of original grooves inspired by classic 12” house and garage history.

What’s your favourite song of all time? What an evil question! There are many, but one in particular stands out to both of us….. Red Carpet’s Alright. We were both there in the Wild Fruit Tent, Pride 2009 when Dulcie Danger dropped it. It created an epic moment. Dulcie and Alright have been very inspirational to both of us – Bryony even has the lyrics tattooed on her!

Which tune always fills up (or rescues) your dancefloor? Verity: MK Burning (Original Vibe Mix). It never fails, never gets old. Bryony: Right On (Vocal Remix) by Silicone Soul is a guaranteed to send any dancefloor into a nostalgic spin.

What would be your ultimate dream gig? Bryony: Panorama Bar in Berlin. We went for the first time in January, and there is something pretty magical about that place – the music is always unbelievable and the crowd are in a different world, it’s really special. Verity: I feel very lucky because we regularly have those gigs that afterwards we say ‘wow that was the best gig ever’! So the answer is any place there is a perfect balance of love, sweat, tears….and an epic soundsystem.

Name a tune you wish you’d never played? Bryony: I once dropped the Glee version of Don’t Stop Believing. There was a fair amount of tequila and peer pressure involved and I publically apologised the day after!!!

Guilty pleasure? Verity: Bryony likes to feature some diva tune when you least expect it, she is the master of ‘one more song’ and that has become my (not!) guilty pleasure! Bryony: My favourite was M People’s One Night in Heaven at the end of a club night in Vauxhall. I almost got in a trouble for that until they saw everyone singing along! Ha!

What’s been your best ever gig? No brainer. Brighton Pride – Wild Fruit Tent!!!
