Chris Coco live at Coco Club The Zap Brighton 1990

Chris Coco live at Coco Club, Zap Club KIngs Road Arches, Brighton September 1990

Amazing what you find in the loft if you look hard enough. Tucked in with the flyers and laminated membership card, hiding underneath that oversized Coco Club tee, there it was. 90 minutes of joy courtesy of a Coco Club cassette.

The backdrop to our early loved-up days together back in 1993, Kate smitten by the bongo banger that was Queen Josephine, the Zap Club was a fundamental part of our DJ life together in Brighton. From Xi-Xi on percussion and Helene on the door of the Coco Club, to the life-changing nights at Club Shame, Zap Club’s roots go deep, inspiring our lifelong love of house music, thanks especially to Chris Coco. DJ, mentor, friend.

The Zap Club was our church, a community of clubbers, a queer tribe forever our family. As the sweat of the dancefloor dripped onto the vinyl decks as the arches rocked, the Coco Club was the place of legends who became our family.
