Chris & Dom’s Sunday Almanac

Growing up queer it’s hard to find your tribe. To find your fit. To truly belong. The years at school forever avoiding eye contact, hiding in corridor corners, head down in the library, and not making a fuss seemed endless, the desire to be invisible as strong as your wish to survive those difficult queer teenage years. Shame and fear mixed with the raging hormones of a homo desperate to find their tribe. Just letters to some, but everything to me. A LGBTQI+ tribe I finally found when I stumbled through the doors of Chris & Dom’s Sunday Almanac. The perfect peacocks, impeccably suited darlings, gorgeous geeks and fabulous freaks blossoming on an inclusive and oh-so-welcoming dancefloor that insists on the wiggles – but only once you’ve mopped up your Sunday gravy. It’s the gaggles of dancing queens that make it glorious, the poses once struck hidden in bedroom closets as you yearned for an escape pod to that wished-for gay utopia now out and proud and finding joy via the random but always perfect selection of the DJs Chris and Dom within the Saint George. Sunday Almanac is the gay gang I needed, the bears I want to bounce with, the queer souls I hungered for, the Huw dance I always want. It’s the coolest not-so-youthful club I’ve ever found and one Queenie and I can’t wait to play for and dance with again this Sunday as we all declare – via the rebellious act of dancing on tables – that we are queer and dear and always here. It was worth the wait. It was absolutely worth the wait.
