DYKES ON MICS – a panel discussion + community social, with all proceeds going to @care4calais
As the nights draw in and festive chaos looms, join us for a low-energy, high-interest evening in the gorgeous surrounds Pink Moon. We’re kicking off with a panel discussion and closing with open decks + a social.
Joined by an inspiring bunch of dykey DJs, we’re going to be chatting about a topic we all love and hold dear – nightlife, club spaces, and the SCENE:
✨ Queer nightlife as a cultural institution — and how to keep it alive
✨ The historical importance of clubs as spaces for self-expression, identity + community in the queer community
✨ The history of lesbian clubbing in Brighton and the role lesbian clubs + spaces have played in our city
✨ Tips for getting started in the club scene as queer people
We’re joined on the panel by:
💋 @areola_grande_latte — DJ, Drag King, high femme dyke + DPhil in Queer Nightlife History at Oxford University
💿 @wildbloodandqueenie – Brighton nightlife legends, creating space for queers and putting on nights in Brighton since 1993
🎶 @dj_b4b — co-founder of bbg + one half of puppy playgrnd, creating space for Brighton women + GNC folks
🔥 @nikkixjam — multi-genre DJ + founder of @dkmbevents, known for a multi-genre sound blending SWANA x brat sounds for big booty shaking evenings
All proceeds support Care 4 Calais, who deliver emergency aid to refugees in Calais and across Europe. As temperatures drop, they’re raising funds to get warm coats to people in need
