Wild Fruit Reunion, anyone?

Wild Fruit The club that dominated our disco lives. Be it whilst “courting” back in 1993 or DJing on our Pride debut with Princess Julia at Brighton’s Dome in 2002, our Candy Bar lounge debut room 2 adventure and thanks to several year’s service as Sunday Sundae’s warm up DJ for nobody-but-that-man- wearing-nowt- but-a-dirty-mac (Sunday 8th June 2003 3pm till 6pm to be precise, yes I kept a note!), to our full Fruity debut in 2004 (after a little Fruit Underground service with Dulcie Danger in the hallowed old arches of room two of The Zap), Wild Fruit has been the backbone of our queer Brighton lives.

Delivering family and friendships we’ll forever cherish, and Brighton Pride memories no one will ever rain on. Even when it rained, the Wild Fruit Big Top poles were climbed, and Paul told everyone off. Like proper told them off. Wild Fruit’s dancefloor, be it a Brighton Pride or on West Street, Red Party or compilation release parties, connected us to all that was good about Brighton’s LGBTQI+ house music scene. Raging queers, rammed dancefloors, sweaty bodies, reality escaping themes, the best dress up, the dolliest of rockets and the finest of banging house DJs. From legends to heroes, inspirations to label mates, they all became friends, ensure deck life was forever embracing.

Yeah, we had a fair share of disco dramas, and it was best to sleep through the entirety of Tuesday if you could but there was always something undeniable about the force Wild Fruit created, alongside those oversized (and occasionally nicked) bananas. Whilst creating chosen disco family, it changed our city. The way it campaigned, the way it fundraised, the way it partied, the way it led the way with Brighton Pride and the way it sounded. I’ll never forget that rush on that hot and sweaty as f*** dancefloor as the topless boys, and me waited for the drop, and we felt the vibe. All brought to you by one man and his love of a smoke machine. More smoke, MORE SMOKE!

It’s the throwback we want to see come back, and we can’t wait to reunite with our Wild Fruit family this May. Oiled up go-go boys and all. See you at the front. We’ll be the DJs raising an AF glass (how times have changed) to the ones who made it happen. Paul, Dulcie, Sean, Bunny, Pete, Neil, Guy, Andy, Chris, Jeffery, the other Chris, Zsarday, Vicky, Alistair, AJ, Richard, Alex, John, Kasia, Forde, Nicky, Mikalis, yet another Chris, Jonny, Wayne, Yvette, Julia, Kimberly, Lee, Linda, Freddie, RealBrighton, Tracey, Edna, Verity, Bryony, Grace, Simon, the aforementioned go-go boys (gawd how we loved those tiny speedos) and the many, many souls who made those years of our disco lives so very fruity.
