Queenie does Michelle Manetti and its all very Lipstick Disco lovely

MM2OK, so it’s January. The joy (or hideousness) of Xmas is fading away along with your numerous New Years Resolutions, so it’s time to bring some bounce back into your life as you find delight on the dancefloor. This month Queen Josephine catches up with ex-Brighton Belle, the gorgeous Michelle Manetti and finds her an extremely busy lady up there in London village. So go on, get on the train and have a wiggle with her at one of her numerous residencies. And if you want to see her grin pass her a hob-nob and ask for Whitney Houston!!!

Where can we see you playing these days? I have a few weekly residencies playing pretty commercial music You can find me every Tuesday at Bar Soho, every Wednesday at Dirty Martini at St Pauls, every Thursday at Gem Bar and every Friday at The Warwick – all in London. I also play once or twice a month at She Bar in Soho and at Topshop Oxford Circus, as well as various guest sets where I tend to play more underground stuff, mostly in London and occasionally in Brighton but also internationally too.

How would you describe your djing style? Eclectic. I like to vibe off the crowd and take them on a little journey, I play a lot of retro influenced stuff, but my sets are fairly free and fluid and I don’t tend to confine myself to genres.

What’s your favourite song of all time? Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance With Somebody. It never fails to make me smile.

Which tune always fills up (or rescues) your dancefloor? It depends the vibe I’m playing & the crowd, sometimes you need to throw in one of the biggest current hits to get them excited, sometimes a good retro classic or remix does the job.

What would be your ultimate dream gig (no holds barred and in an ideal world!!!)? To play a set at the Panorama Bar at Berghain in Berlin

Guilty pleasure? Caaaaaaake. Or biscuits. Or ice cream…..I have a sweet tooth!!!

What’s been your best ever gig? There have been so many great gigs it’s difficult to narrow it down! But I think one of my faves is certainly when I played for Salvation at Ministry of Sound in Taiwan. I was DJing as well as doing a live vocal PA and there were four thousand Taiwanese gay guys going absolutely crazy!!! It was completely insane and such a buzz.

Tell us a secret! A lady doesn’t kiss and tell 😉
