Yesterday I fell for a guy called Eric. I knew nothing about him. But his thing for Dolly in 1934 and his adventures with Wedgewood have me hooked. His landscapes have made me fall in love with Sussex again as the new found walker in me is awakened once more by the wonders around me.
And then I discovered his service as a WWII war artist before he died when his aircraft was lost off Iceland in 1942. Thanks to the Towner Gallery’s Ravilious Room I have a new passion, another name to add to my list of much-admired WWII witnesses, be they Lee Miller, Stanley Spencer, Robert Capa or Humphrey Jennings. I feel another obsession coming on. I’m off to the bookstore. I’m heading back to the Towner’s Ravilious & Co: The Pattern of Friendship come the 27th of May. Why not join me?
