So here we go. Brighton Pride 2017. If you are a visitor, welcome to our city, your about to fall in love! If you live here, well you the know the drill, time to feel prouder than ever of the amazing city we are lucky enough to call home. Brighton Pride is a weekend like no other when the rainbow flags fly high, freindships are forged, lovers found, memories made and life affirmed. Its a weekend for remembering those who came before us who fought so hard for the equality we have today, the campaigners, organisers, artists, performers, volunteers and allies. The brave ones, the ones who wouldn’t stop the fight, who even in the darkest days believed love would win.
It is a weekend when our city comes together to show its support for our amazing LGBTQIA community, when we gather together to party with Pride. But it is also a weekend when we get to give back, fundraising for those LGBTQIA organisations that are there when the rainbow flags have been long packed away, the groups who enable so many to live lives they never thought possible. Connections and communities who funded by one weekend in August make a difference 365 days a year.
So this year as we celebrate the parcial decriminalisation of homosexuality in 1967 lets make it count, lets make it really count. Let’s break Pride’s amazing 2016 fundrasing record and make a difference to the lives LGBTQIA people in Brighton and Hove. Because together with the support of our allies and the amazing businesses, venues and events in our city we can do something magical as we remember the history of all those that came before us and honour them with a Pride that delivers real change, a change we can be proud of.
So as you celebrate, dig deep, donate, ensure the party you attend or the business you support gives back and make a real difference. Let the 200,000+ people in Brighton this weekend be a wave of rainbow power that changes lives. Its time to party with Pride, its time to party with purpose.
Brighton & Hove Pride – Official Page Festival, Pride Village Party, Pleasure Gardens and the Official Pride Parties are all about fundraising for The Rainbow Fund – Brighton & Hove – enabling them to award grants to local LGBT+ organisations. Over the past years they have supported Allsorts, FTMB, MindOut, RadioReverb’s HIV Happy Hour, Rainbow Chorus, Lunch Positive, Trans Can Sport, Blueprint 22, Brighton Gems, Peer Action, Older and Out and the LGBT Community Safety Forum. So make your wiggle worthwhile this weekend. Ticket info here
