Each year March 8th makes its way on my horizon I’m always struck by how far we’ve come at 1BTN radio. What once was a shout-out on the social from the legendary Suze Rosser over 6 years ago for more female, trans women and non-binary folk to get down to Brighton’s finest broadcasting bunker and join their rota of talent has blossomed thanks to the work of her wonderful self, Kerry Jean Lister, Jayne Winstanley, Queen Josephine, Hannah Sherlock, Clara Suess and many, many, many more. A collective of DJs, presenters and artists working together to ensure we continue the long march towards broadcast equality on the airwaves. Forever my favourite W.I., this community of magnificent souls has nurtured my radio days, delivered friendships I could now never exist without and a much-needed springboard to share my passion for music and my life with a certain Queenie. It has made my life so much sounder and I’m so chuffed to be part of a group of folks this International Women’s Day determined to make our lives even sounder. One radio show at a time.
