Listen again: Wildblood and Queenie 1BTN Spirit Of Zap Reunion Special

We did another of those radio shows again. This time we got special. Wildblood and Queenie Spirit of Zap Reunion Special. Yep, we embraced the ageing process and went back, way back, to a time when our hips worked and we all loved a sniff of the Vicks. We played lots of proper house and US/ UK garage for you as we dug deep into that Zap Club sound and decided to ‘ave it large. Right large. BMC24: DJs and Neurodivergence Panel

There are the stereotypes and the traits any neurodivergent DJ will have to deal with – the collecting, the obsession, the hyperfocus, the isolation, each rubbing alongside the sensory overload, rejection sensitivity dysphoria and the social anxiety that accompanies our days and nights. But somehow if you can get past that, these hard-wired differences do work, crafting a career in an industry seemingly atypical but increasingly filled with the neurodivergent. ADHD, Autism and me: Meltdown milkshake anyone?

I’d gone 8 days without a meltdown. 8 days. 8 days of meetings and zooms, of arrangements and chats, eye contact and conversations, dinner parties and hosting, digging and dancing, eating proper and sleeping well, planning and working, attempting to engage the hyperfocus, being the person I needed to be. But there I was yesterday afternoon, head hitting and swearing, raging and shaking, losing it because an app lost my bearings as my AuADHD mind temporarily lost mine. There was no warning, to play book rumble, no signpost in that particular Maccy D car park at that particular time of what was to come. Just the blow-up. ADHD, autism and me: Neurodiversity Celebration Week

Last week was Neurodiversity Celebration Week. But due to the lack of a deadline, a plan, my ability to priotise and deliver I missed it. Again. Missed the week to celebrate the lives of us ND folk. Missed the week to write inspiring posts and celebrate our differences. Missed the annual Instagram vs Reality week where we focus on the joy and relegate the reality. Ignore the exhaustion, bluff away the burnout, deny the overload. Continue reading ADHD, autism and me: Neurodiversity Celebration Week

Listen again: 1BTN 09.02.24

One of those shows we do on that thing called the radio is finally out there on those streaming platforms the young people are so keen on. Mixing up the sounds in the clouds or something like that. The show was a right bobby dazzler with enough camp corners from Shelia & B. Devotion, Chuck Cissel, First Choice, Sylvester, Taana Gardener, Amanda Leer and D.C. … Continue reading Listen again: 1BTN 09.02.24

ADHD, autism and me: Not a school skiver

Like many late-diagnosed autistic souls (with big 80s hair) I always kindly kid myself that at least things are better now. I wouldn’t be failed by the education system, missing the first two years of my secondary school because of my autistic sensory overload now. I wouldn’t have struggled to try to fit into an education system that simply wasn’t for this ND me. But … Continue reading ADHD, autism and me: Not a school skiver

International Women’s Day 1BTN Takeover 2024

Each year March 8th makes its way on my horizon I’m always struck by how far we’ve come at 1BTN radio. What once was a shout-out on the social from the legendary Suze Rosser over 6 years ago for more female, trans women and non-binary folk to get down to Brighton’s finest broadcasting bunker and join their rota of talent has blossomed thanks to the … Continue reading International Women’s Day 1BTN Takeover 2024
