Love is in the air, everywhere we look around, which can be interesting if you’re in Morrisons. But thankfully to see us through those moments of loved up madness we have a soundtrack of February wonders that will keep your heart pumping with love.
First up is the melodic loveliness of Concubine and the perfectly titled album, er, Concubine on, er, Concubine. Brought to you by Noah Pred and Rick Bull, Concubine will ensure your days are delicious. As will the well-oiled beats of Rights The Meaning EP on Infinite Machine. There’s plenty here to tuck into as Rights give us a sweet lesson in all things quirky and playful. Also worth your loving attention this month are the divine beats of Various Artists for 10 Years Part I on the Vakant label, a celebration of ten years of contemporary clubbing sounds you need to plug into. We did and we’ve been nodding with pleasure ever since.
Finally our wonders of the month. First up is the downright ridiculously good Butch Watergate 18 on Berlin’s Watergate label. It will charm the pants off you with its hypnotic techno and is one for those of you who like it done right proper. Purchase, along with an airfare to Berlin, and your winter is sorted. And finally there’s Nightbus on Chris Coco Music. It’s more than a compilation, it’s a night out, on the Nightbus, and is created by DJ Chris Coco (clues in the label name), music producer Ojan, and film makers Wesley Stokes Mellor and Molly Eaglesham. An ethereal and ambient slice of life beyond the boring return, it’s just the escape ticket you need. Climb onboard, you’ll not regret it. Enjoy.
